PETALING JAYA: National racer Naquib Azlan (pic) stormed to victory at the Asia Pacific Motorsports Championship, defending his e-sports gold with a blistering lap time of 2:16.636 at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit on Saturday.
The 25-year-old nailed the win ahead of fierce competition from the Philippines’ Luis Moreno (2:17.349) and Hong Kong’s Yim Chit Kit (2:17.298), proving once again why he’s a force to be reckoned with.
After taking the crown in Kuala Lumpur last year, Naquib said: “Back-to-back golds feel incredible.
“It shows the hard work and hours on the simulator pay off big time. Massive thanks to my team – Axle Sports, Youth and Sports Ministry, Esports Integrated, and the Motorsports Association of Malaysia.”
The Malaysian squad left no stone unturned, hauling their own simulator rigs all the way to Sri Lanka to squeeze every bit of practice out of the trip.
“Bringing the rigs here to get extra seat time was a game-changer. More practice means better results, and that’s exactly what we got,” Naquib said.
He’s also tearing it up in the Thailand Super Series, currently leading the GT4 category alongside teammate Mitchell Cheah.
In Sri Lanka, Naquib’s teammate and national racer Leona Chin, who was also the only female racer in the e-sports category, put up a great fight during the race, but fell outside the top 10.
