PETALING JAYA: Mohd Akid Aziz (pic) gave a clear indication of his ability to win a sixth title of the season by grabbing pole position in Round 8 of the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at Dataran Seri Jempol, Negri Sembilan yesterday.
The Petronas Sprinta Yamaha - CKJ Racing rider recorded the fastest time in the qualifying session for the CP150 category with 44.289s.
Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor, the winner of last year’s race at this track, was second fastest with a time of 44.290s.
Akid’s teammates Emil Idzhar Ezuan and Mohd Afif Amran recorded times of 44:390s and 44:420s respectively to place third and fourth.
The 26-year-old Akid is confident of finishing in front today.
“I feel that my setup is in excellent condition. With each lap I complete, I am able to maintain a strong level of consistency and I believe I can push myself even further,” said Akid.
“My hope for Jempol is for my team to secure a podium finish and sweep the top three positions,” said Akid, who has a 43-point lead in the championship with three rounds to go.
He is on top with a total of 150 points with nearest challenger Afif on 107.
Azroy Hakeem Anuar of Honda Estremo Yuzy Racing is third overall with 95 points.
