S1K endurance race attracts 90 cars this weekend

SEPANG: Recording its highest entry ever, Malaysia’s prestigious racing event – the 2023 Sepang 1000km Endurance Race (S1K) brings back memories of the glorious Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER) in the early 2000s when competing teams had to qualify to earn their place on the starting grid of 12-hour race.

Now entering its 15th edition, S1K – an endurance battle of 181 laps around the 5.5km Sepang track has for the first time this year exceeded the permitted 77 starters, making Friday’s qualifying contest critical for the 90 cars registered for the race.
