Muzakkir sizzles with new record as he tops CP150 qualifying

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Muzakkir Mohamed (pic) of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team put up a sizzling show at the Sepang International Circuit with a new record in the CP150 category during the qualifying session.

Muzakkir topped the rest of the riders with a 0.616s gap after posting the fastest time of 1:15:813.

It’s a significantly positive start to the season for him after finishing 11th overall in the standings last year with a total of 51 points without any podium finishes.

Azroy Hakeem Anuar of Honda Yuzy Estremo Team was the previous record holder with a time of 1:16:426 in 2020.

Commenting on the session, Muzakkir said he did not expect to be fast from the start.

“It’s quite an achievement for me. This season, we hope to overcome all the challenges,” he said.

“There are more highly experienced and skilful riders this season. Every year, these riders are upgrading themselves with better practices to perform better.

“Nevertheless, I will bank on my experiences to enhance my performances this season to achieve a level that is better than the last one.”

Azroy clocked the second fastest lap time of 1:16:429 while third came Ahmad Afif Amran of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing Team at 1:16:593.

In the CP125 category, Mohd Syafiq Ezzariq Saiful Nizam of Jetron Yamaha YYPang Racing Team topped the qualifying session at 1:22.532, followed by Mohd Syafiq Rosli of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor at 1:22:608.
