Weiron going big time with Audi

PETALING JAYA: Talented racing driver Weiron Tan added another feather to his cap by being announced as one of the four drivers on the Asia roster for the 2019 Audi Sport team. This will see Weiron – who has established himself as a force across various platforms including single-seaters, endurance and GT racing championships – competing for Audi Sport alongside some big names this season.

In addition to Weiron, Audi Sport confirmed that they have also signed China’s Cheng Congfu, Estonian Martin Rump and also the promising David Chen of China for 2019.

Weiron has also been given the honour of becoming a professional mentor, together with Congfu and Rump, in the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup for 2019.

The trio will be supporting drivers in the all-privateer series.

Weiron said being named as an official Audi Sport Asia driver was a huge honour.

“I am extremely excited to be an official Audi Sport Asia driver. It has been a dream of mine to drive for a manufacturer, especially Audi, as they have always been a favourite brand in my family, so this makes it extra special,” said Weiron.

The 24-year-old Weiron enjoyed a stellar 2018 season where he created history alongside fellow drivers Jazeman Jaafar and Nabil Jeffri in the World Endurance Championships (WEC).

The trio became the first all-Malaysian driver line-up to win a race in WEC when they won the Six Hours of Fuji last year.
