PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) have disbanded the national men’s senior and junior teams and the fate of head coach A. Arulselvaraj will be known on Sunday.

MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said Arulselvaraj will submit a detailed report on the Olympic Qualifiers in Oman to coaching committee chairman Datuk Majid Manjit Abdullah before a decision is made on his future.

Malaysia failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics after finishing fifth in Oman two weeks ago. Only the top three get to play in the Olympics.

"MHC have disbanded the national men’s senior and junior teams, including their coaches, and the coaching committee headed by Majid will decide on the next course of action," said Subahan.

"The coaching committee are waiting for a report from Arulselvaraj and they will decide whether to retain him or start fresh with a new coach after the meeting.

"The selection of the players will be done by the new head coach and I will leave it to the committee to finalise the candidate."

Majid said he would be able to give a clear picture on the position on Arulsevaraj’s position after the meeting.

All the national coaches’ contracts ended at the end of December last year but MHC have extended their contracts until January this year to enable them to guide the Speedy Tigers for the Olympic Qualifiers.

Majid said the national team selection will be conducted by the new national coach who will be named next month.

The national team will be selected after the completion of the Malaysian Hockey League (Feb 2-March 9).
