Malaysia settled for a point against France in Hockey World Cup

PETALING JAYA: The national hockey team settled for a 3-3 draw against France in their second World Cup group stage tie on Monday (Aug 17).

The Speedy Tigers broke the deadlock first in five minutes after Shello Silverius scored a field goal, but Victor Charlet equalised for France in the 19th minute.

Nations Cup winners France then took the lead in the 37th minute through Louis Haertelmeyer, before Shello levelled the game with a penalty corner conversion in the 45th minute.

Akhimullah Anuar Esook then gave Malaysia the lead in the 57th minute, but their win was denied by France’s Timothee Clement as he equalised with a minute left on the clock.

Malaysia settled for a single point from the 3-3 draw, an improvement from their 5-1 defeat against Germany in their opening group stage tie on Saturday.

World No. 14 Malaysia will face world No. 1 Belgium in their final group match on Wednesday (Aug 19).
