PETALING JAYA: After 12 years, Kuala Lumpur have lifted the Razak Cup title.

The City Boys downed Melaka 4-2 in a penalty shootout after both sides held each other 2-2 in the final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday (Oct 21).

Melaka drew first blood in the first quarter when captain Amirullah Zainal scored in the 10th minute when he rounded goalkeeper Khairul Amirin Kamarul Azlan and unleashed.

In the second quarter, Kuala Lumpur captain Zulpidaus Mizun scored in the 20th minute when he capitalised on a pass from Razak Cup top scorer Daniel Asyraf Abdul Ghani.

Amirullah got his second of the game when he finished off a penalty corner setpiece in the 34th minute.

But Melaka’s lead only lasted three minutes when Kuala Lumpur striker V. Sriraam scored a field goal.

In the penalty shootout, Kuala Lumpur goalie Khairul was the hero when he saved two penalties to give Kuala Lumpur a 4-2 win in the shootout.

Kuala Lumpur’s winning penalty was scored by Wan Arif Faizudin Wan Ameer Ruzman.

Kuala Lumpur last won the title in 2011, while Melaka last won it in 2019.

Earlier in the third-fourth playoff, Perak beat Pahang 3-1 in a penalty shootout, as both sides drew 1-1 in regulation time.
