Natasha battles on in eventful round

PETALING JAYA: It was another rollercoaster ride for Malaysian golfer Natasha Andrea Oon in the third round of the Fortinet Founders Cup in California after carding a three-under 71 on Saturday.

Natasha, who is making her LPGA debut, stayed on course despite slight inconsistencies with an eagle, five birdies, four bogeys, and one double bogey at the Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club.

She dropped seven spots to tied 38th after starting the day with a two-under.

The 24-year-old had a similar chaotic second round scorecard, which also featured an eagle and double bogey, but she was left in disbelief with another hole out on the course.

"It was a 54 wedge and about 90 yards to the hole. I needed more distance for it so I hit it up, and it spun back into the hole," said Natasha.

"I just collapsed, and my caddy was telling me ‘not again’, and we were in disbelief. It was crazy. Another rollercoaster scorecard.

"But I was a bit frustrated as well. I did say that golf was fun, but today I might be a liar."

Making her return to competitive golf after a two-year absence due to a foot injury, Natasha is looking forward to making her maiden LPGA outing a memorable one.

"I just want to go out there and enjoy it," she said.

"I have to remember I made the weekend, and so many good things have happened.

"I have one more round to go, but I’m so grateful and appreciative of all the support and new following," she said.

South Korea’s Kim Hyo-joo remains in the lead with 17-under par, five strokes ahead of American Nelly Korda in second.
