PETALING JAYA: Winnie Ng is pleased to turn her game around after a series of setbacks and is now looking to finish the year on a good note.
On Thursday, the 24-year-old closed out the PGM Tour season finale in spectacular fashion, firing a 11-under 205 to claim a commanding five-stroke victory at the Palm Resort Championship in Johor.
The Kuala Lumpur-born Winnie was delighted to see her hard work, resilience and belief in herself finally translate into a well-deserved win.
"After a year-long drought, I finally clinched my first local professional win at the final local event of the PGM Tour season and at the very same venue where I once lifted a trophy as an amateur last year," said Winnie, referring to her win in the Toyota Supra Cup in 2024.
For Winnie, her latest win was incredibly emotional, especially after missing two cuts in China LPGA Tour and finishing several earlier events below her expectations.
"There were moments of self-doubt and despair, even though I worked tirelessly all year with clear goals in mind.
"But despite everything, I am proud of myself for never giving up. I am also deeply grateful to my mum and dad for supporting me unconditionally, especially during my lowest moments.
"I have so many people to thank - from those who helped me financially and gave me encouragement, to my coaches, sponsors, friends, and parents who stayed by my side and believed in my breakthrough.
"This week was truly a battle and I also want to thank the PGM Tour for providing us the platform to compete locally among strong players, and for the chance to learn how to handle pressure better.
"This win would also not have been possible without my team support," said Winnie, who will be looking to carry her good form over into two remaining events on the China LPGA Tour next month.
She heads to Hainan after this for the Wanning Women's Open from Dec 4-6 at Oak Forest Golf Club followed by Haikou CLPG Tour Championship at Mission Hills from Dec 11-13.
