THE Rules of Handicapping, according to Royal & Ancient Golf Club (R&A), have been crafted to “provide a consistent measure of a golfer’s ability worldwide and help to enhance the enjoyment of the game for all who play, wherever they play”.
The World Handicap System (WHS), as we have come to know it, was “developed by the R&A and USGA (United States Golf Association) in close coordination with existing handicapping authorities” and aims to ensure all golfers have “a consistent measure of playing ability, with handicaps calculated in the same way wherever they are in the world”, the world governing body says on its randa.org website.
