SHAH ALAM: Thomas Pieters of Belgium bolstered his hopes of a first European Tour win in three years by taking a one-shot lead into the weekend of the Maybank Championship.

The 27-year-old responded strongly to an early bogey on the second hole with four birdies en route to carding a three-under 69 at the Saujana Golf and Country Club yesterday.
