PETALING JAYA: Teenager Daeng Abdul Rahman Abdul Aziz became the youngest Malaysian player to ever win on the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour when he clinched the RM180,000 PGM Danau Closed by a single stroke.
The 15-year-old Daeng, who held a one-stroke overnight lead, kept his nerves in check to upstage the pros with a classy performance at Danau Golf Club in Bangi with a final round of two-under 70 for a 10-under 278 total.
Despite taking the overall honours, Daeng did not walked out of the clubhouse any richer as he is still an amateur and ineligible for the prize purse.
Sukree Othman emerged RM30,600 richer as he won the playoff for second place against Akhmal Termizi after tied on 279.
Despite that, Daeng was still delighted with his success
“I am very happy,” said the Singapore SEA Games-bound teenager.
“I struggled over the first nine and it got worse at the 11th hole where I made a double-bogey. I was in the hazard and in trouble.
“But I came back with the three birdies and that helped me get back into it.”
