Toha’s tireless runs give Brunei hope ahead of JDT showdown

PETALING JAYA: Muhammad Toha (pic) is a bundle of energy on the right flank for Brunei and has been a standout fullback in the Malaysian League this season.

The Indonesian joined the Borneo side in August from Persita Tangerang, where he played from 2016 to 2026, and has settled in quickly thanks to his work rate, interceptions, tackles and overlapping runs.

The 29-year-old, who sports a distinctive ponytail, has started 11 games and is an important part of a defence that also comprises leftback Tommy Mawat Bada and centrebacks Clark Robertson of Scotland and Ghana’s Ebenezer Abban.

Brunei trail defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) 0-2 ahead of the FA Cup semi-final second leg, and they will need Toha and his defensive colleagues at their best to give the forwards the confidence to push for a comeback.

“As a collective, our team maintain unwavering optimism ahead of every match. Our immediate focus is squarely on the second leg against JDT,” said Toha.

“Currently, the squad are fully dedicated to executing the tactical instructions and training protocols established by the coaching staff.

“Praise be to God, I hold fast to a fundamental principle regardless of which club I represent: I am committed to delivering my absolute best for the organisation.

“My integration into the squad has been exceptionally smooth, largely due to the warm and welcoming reception extended by my teammates.

“We are well aware that JDT boast exceptional quality across their entire roster. Both their starting XI and their bench depth possess high-level capabilities.

“On a personal level, my approach is to maintain complete focus during every training session, continuously elevate my performance, and learn from every opponent I encounter on the pitch.”
