PETALING JAYA: Selangor claimed their second win of the Super League season with a 3-0 victory over Terengganu, but the result was overshadowed by a worrying injury to first-choice goalkeeper Izhan Nazrel Sikh Azman.
The Red Giants dismantled Terengganu at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak on Friday (Aug 28), but their focus after the final whistle was on Izhan, who was taken away by ambulance following a suspected concussion.
Selangor broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Dutch striker Kay Tejan pounced on a loose ball and drove it past Terengganu goalkeeper Rahadiazli Rahalim.
They doubled their lead four minutes later through a moment of individual brilliance, as Brazilian forward Chrigor Moraes beat two defenders before rounding Rahadiazli to finish superbly.
The match took a concerning turn in the 71st minute when Izhan collided head-on with Terengganu striker Romel Morales.
The 24-year-old laid motionless on the pitch as physios and team doctors rushed to attend to him before he was stretchered off and taken to hospital.
He was replaced by reserve goalkeeper Azim Al-Amin under a concussion substitution.
Selangor held firm for the remainder of the match and put the result beyond doubt in injury time, when Moraes struck again to complete his brace.
In Friday’s other fixture, Sabah also picked up their second win of the season, beating Penang 2-0 at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu. Argentine striker Gonzalo Di Renzo opened the scoring in the 41st minute, before defender Hanafie Tokyo added a second in the 53rd.
