PETALING JAYA: Faris Danish Mohd Asrul believes Malaysia have what it takes to overcome the Philippines and keep their Hyundai AFF Cup campaign on track, insisting Harimau Malaya are stronger in every department despite their recent setback.
The young left back remains confident the national team will bounce back from their 2-0 defeat to Thailand when they host the Philippines in their Group B clash at Kuala Lumpur Stadium on Saturday.
Malaysia need all three points to strengthen their chances of reaching the semi-finals. They are currently second in the group but could slip further down the standings before the weekend, with both Myanmar and the Philippines still having a game in hand.
“They’re a good team, but we’re better. We have better players in every position,” said Faris after training at UM Arena yesterday.
The 20-year-old Johor Darul Ta’zim II defender made his senior international debut in the defeat to Thailand and was one of Malaysia’s brighter performers after coming on in the second half.
“I made the most of the opportunity, but I’m still not satisfied because we lost.”
Despite the squad featuring a mix of experienced players and newcomers, Faris said the atmosphere within the camp has been positive.
“It has been a smooth experience because the senior players have been very helpful and patient.”
While the defeat in Bangkok was a setback, Faris has not lowered his ambitions and remains focused on helping Malaysia reach the final.
