PETALING JAYA: Selangor must not get comfortable with the one-goal advantage they will bring to the second semi-final leg of the Asean Club Championship Shopee Cup against Nam Dinh on May 13.
Selangor coach Kim Pan-gon reminded his men that they can expect another difficult match away at the Thien Truong Stadium next Wednesday.
The Red Giants secured a 2-1 win in the first leg at the MBPJ Stadium on Wednesday, thanks to Brazilian forward Chrigor Moraes’ brace (38th and 58th minutes).
Nguyen Van Vi’s goal in first-half stoppage time, however, left the tie finely balanced ahead of the second leg and Pan-gon expects his men to maintain their consistency and high performance shown in the first match.
“Nam Dinh are very strong at home and we need to be fully prepared for this.
“We will be very strong with our system. This will be a tough match. We expect them to attack us, so we need to show we can counter.
“But we also have a lot of good strikers who can attack them. I hope this will be another good match for the fans,” he said.
Commenting further, Pan-gon was clearly satisfied when his men managed to follow all the instructions set and achieve the desired objective in the match.
“We are aware that Nam Dinh are physically and individually very strong, but at home we wanted to win before the second leg away.
“So we put in our best effort with an attacking strategy while maintaining good defensive balance.’’
Meanwhile, Nam Dinh manager Hong Viet Vu said they intend to rein in Selangor’s two-goal hero Moraes in the second leg.
“Before the match, I said there are two players who need to be given attention, namely number seven (Faisal Halim) and number 91 (Moraes),” said Viet Vu.
“I think we failed to shut down Moraes in today’s match. But I am confident in the second match, we will perform better.
“He will not score again. We still have the second match at home and we will score more goals to advance to the final.’’
