PETALING JAYA: Wilmar Jordan is emerging as the driving force behind Immigration’s solid debut season, with his goals, physical presence and trademark celebration making a growing impact in the Super League.
The Colombian forward was instrumental in the Mighty Tigers’ 3-1 comeback victory over Brunei at Kangar Stadium in Perlis on Sunday.
Jordan found the net just three minutes after Australian striker Jordan Murray put Brunei in a lead with his goal in 10th minute.
And his unique celebration after the goal where he imitated a gorilla, stole the show.
“I like the gorilla because of its imposing nature and strength, and I identify with that. It has always been my favourite animal,” said Jordan.
Midfielder Fadzrul Danel Nizam put the hosts ahead in the 51st minute before winger Fayadh Zulkifli sealed the win with a late goal in the 89th minute.
“Our goal now is to secure sixth place. After that, we leave everything in God’s hands,” said Jordan.
The win keeps Immigration in sixth place with 28 points from 22 matches, three points clear of Negri Sembilan in seventh and five ahead of Brunei in eighth.
Jordan’s performances have drawn praise in recent weeks, with the forward excelling in a lone-striker role thanks to his muscular physique and intelligent movement in and around the penalty area.
He is currently Immigration’s top scorer with 10 goals in 19 league appearances.
“We have showed our ability to respond quickly and keep fighting. Now we have two important matches left, and we want to finish strongly in a good position,” said Jordan.
“For a team in their first season in the top division, I think it’s an excellent job by all the players and coaching staff.
“We’re also happy to get our first win in Perlis.”
Immigration, coached by Yusri Che Lah, will conclude their campaign with matches against Terengganu away on Friday and Melaka at home on May 15.
