PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s attacking duo of Chrigor Moraes and Alvin Fortes played pivotal roles as the Red Giants strengthened their grip on second place in the Super League with a commanding win on Sunday.
Moraes scored twice while Fortes provided two assists as Selangor cruised to a 4-0 victory over Immigration at the Petaling Jaya Stadium.
The win lifts Selangor to second in the standings with 39 points from 19 matches, edging Kuala Lumpur on goal difference.
Moraes, 25, kept his response brief after another influential performance.
“Three points and we keep building – that is the aim with this club. It is good to score goals, but everything we do is for the club,” said the Brazilian.
The striker has been in scintillating form this season. Moraes has scored 19 league goals, and across all competitions he has tallied 33 goals and 10 assists, underlining his importance to Selangor’s attack.
Moraes said scoring remains a special feeling for any striker but stressed that the team’s success matters more than individual accolades.
“The best feeling for any striker is scoring a goal. The club signed me to score goals and help with the finishing, while my teammates create the chances for me.”
Moraes also believes Selangor are capable of securing second place if they maintain their performances.
“Everyone knows that if we play our football and perform well, second place will be ours,” he said.
Selangor took the lead in the 27th minute when Moraes headed home a cross from captain and winger Faisal Halim.
The hosts doubled their advantage just before half-time when wingback Ahmad Zikri Khalili powered in a header from Fortes’ cross in the 45th minute.
Moraes grabbed his second of the night in the 78th minute, finishing off a swift attacking move set up by Fortes.
In injury time, Brazilian midfielder Victor Pernambuco completed the rout by converting a pass from Faisal to seal Selangor’s emphatic victory.
