PETALING JAYA: Petrus Shitembi is feeling stronger and fitter by the day and this is good news for Kuching City as they prepare for the Malaysia Cup quarter-final, second-leg match against Brunei at the State Stadium tomorrow.
The Namibian is grateful for his injury-free season so far, and he hopes it stays that way as he, together with Moses Atede and Daniel Amier Norhisham, put their creativity and discipline to man the midfield.
“I’m just grateful to be trusted,” said Shitembi, once affectionately known as “Dancing Shoes”.
“During my career in Malaysia, I had injury setbacks, relapses and moments of worry, but this season I’ve been able to deliver good performances because I no longer have to worry about injuries.
“My duty is to repay the faith and trust shown by the coaching staff and management. We always want to outdo ourselves.”
With 79 caps for Namibia, Shitembi brings pedigree and poise to a Kuching side that have steadily grown in confidence.
“From the start, we can see the squad have relatively improved with a good mix of experienced and young players. It is evident through our performances this season,” said the 33-year-old Shitembi.
Statistic-wise, his three goals and seven assists in 24 appearances across all competitions underline his impact for the Cats.
“In 2022, when I was with Terengganu, the team finished second and went to a Cup final. I hope to do that with Kuching City this season.
“We want to do better than last season.”
Against Brunei tomorrow, Shitembi’s role will be pivotal.
Expect him to orchestrate from deep, control transitions and exploit spaces with his trademark delivery.
