PETALING JAYA: Penang’s Australian striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls (pic) wants his team to quickly put their Malaysia Cup exit behind them and bounce back by extending their winning streak in the Super League.
They will face Kelantan at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru today, hoping to get back on track in the league.
The 28-year-old admitted the defeat was painful but said the team would not dwell on their Malaysia Cup disappointment.
“Of course, it’s disappointing not to qualify for the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals, but we need to put that aside and focus on the league and the Challenge Cup,” said Wenzel-Halls.
They lost 1-2 in aggregate to Kuching City in the last 16 of the Malaysia Cup.
“We have good momentum in the Super League and hope to continue this performance in the upcoming matches. We’ve been putting in 100% hard work during training to achieve this turnaround,” he said.
“We have to fight our hardest against Kelantan because they have quality players, and I’ve personally watched their matches.
“We also know their coach (Akmal Rizal Rakhli) very well as he was previously with Penang.
“Regardless, we will try to dominate the match and deliver a win for the fans.”
This year Penang have beaten Terengganu (2-0, Jan 3), Melaka (5-0, Jan 11) and Kuala Lumpur (0-1, Jan 14) in the league.
Wenzel-Halls is a key figure for the team, contributing significantly to Penang’s campaign with 7 goals and three assists in 15 appearances so far.
And more would be expected out of him as the Panthers look to notch their fourth consecutive victory and move up the league standings, as they are currently seventh with 17 points.
