KUALA LUMPUR: The National Sports Council (NSC) have unveiled new updates to their National Sports Incentive Scheme (Shakam), introducing new categories and revised payout rates to recognise a wider range of achievements on the international stage.

In a move towards greater inclusivity, rewards for the Deaflympics have been aligned with other major global events, offering RM80,000 for gold, RM40,000 for silver and RM20,000 for bronze.

Tiered incentives have also been set for regional deaf sports competitions, including RM10,000 for gold at the Asia Pacific Deaf Games and RM5,000 for gold at the Asean Deaf Games.

Under new categories for youth athletes, a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games will now be rewarded with RM40,000.

Gold medallists at the Asian Youth, Para Youth and Commonwealth Youth Games will receive RM10,000, while winners at major annual Asian, Commonwealth or Para Asian Youth Championships will earn RM3,000.

Gold medallists at the Olympic E-Sports and Winter Olympic Games will now receive RM80,000, with silver and bronze medallists earning RM40,000 and RM20,000 respectively.

Medallists at the Winter Asian Games and Winter Para Asian Games are also included, with rewards set at RM40,000 for gold, RM20,000 for silver and RM10,000 for bronze.

Winners at annually organised World Championships will now receive RM40,000 for gold, RM20,000 for silver and RM10,000 for bronze.

For regional competitions like the SEA Games and Asean Para Games, a reward of RM20,000 will be given for gold, applicable only to the first gold won by an athlete.

Silver medallists will receive RM3,000, while bronze medallists will receive a minimum of RM1,000.
