Return of defenders Syahmi and Feroz delights JDT

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) are banking on the return of their top local defenders Feroz Baharuddin (pic) and Syahmi Safari to give them an edge in the important Super League clash against Kuching City at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri today.

Both players are returning from serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries that required surgery and rehabilitation in Europe.

Syahmi made his way back into competitive action, featuring as a substitute in two recent league matches.

Last Friday marked a significant milestone for the 28-year-old, who made his first start against Negri Sembilan.

Feroz, meanwhile, made his long-awaited return after a year on the sidelines when he came on as an 89th-minute substitute. His brief appearance was seen as a positive first step towards regaining full match fitness.

JDT head coach Xisco Munoz expressed his delight over the duo’s return.

“I’m happy for him (Syahmi) because he gave everything for the team on Friday and performed excellently,” said the Spaniard.

“He is a professional and positive player in training, and that showed when the opportunity was given to him.

“Feroz too is also back on the pitch after a year.

“I’m very happy with the commitment shown by these two players. We have many difficult matches ahead, so their return is amazing.”

Meanwhile, Kuching City coach Aidil Sharin said: “Against JDT, a lot of energy will be required, and then we have an important Malaysia Cup round of 16 first-leg match against Penang.

“It is a challenge for us, but my boys are always ready.’’

JDT top the standings with 42 points from 14 games, while Kuching City are third with 28 points from 13 matches.
