FAM brace for shake-up as Hamidin comeback looms

PETALING JAYA: Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) honorary president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin could return to the top post of the FAM if the association’s executive committee resign en bloc.

The possibility hinges on the outcome of the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) ruling on FAM’s appeal against FIFA’s sanctions over the use of falsified documents involving seven mixed-heritage players.

FAM acting president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said the current uncertainty meant no scenario could be ruled out, especially if structural changes are made at the top of the organisation.

“To me, any possibility can happen,” said Yusoff after a special exco meeting to discuss options should FAM face further sanctions from FIFA or the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

“If the exco is dissolved, there will be a new election. Anyone can become president, including Tan Sri Hamidin,” he said.

Yusoff added that the direction FAM ultimately takes will depend on decisions made in the coming weeks, with the association’s congress expected to play a key role in shaping the leadership landscape.
