PETALING JAYA: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have imposed fines on the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and two giant clubs of the Malaysia League (M-League), Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Selangor.
The fines were imposed by the AFC disciplinary and ethics committee for violating rules in matches involving the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE) and the Asian Champions League 2 (ACL2).
FAM were fined US$1,875 (RM7,788) for committing an offence under Article 2.2 of the AFC Competition Operations Manual during the 2027 Asian Cup qualifier against Laos at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Oct 14.
“The representative of the respondent caused a delay in the start of the second half of the match for two minutes and 30 seconds.
“The fine must be paid within 30 days from the date of notification of this decision in accordance with Article 11.3 of the AFC Code of Disciplinary and Ethics,” the AFC committee said.
Eleven-time consecutive Super League champions JDT were fined US$5,000 (RM20,783) after failing to provide a “clean stadium” at the official training ground for the ACLE match against Japan club Machida Zelvia on Sept 30.
Selangor were fined US$1,250 (RM5,195) after the team’s representatives caused a delay of one minute and 20 seconds in the second half kick-off during the ACL2 match against Persib Bandung on Oct 23.
JDT and Selangor also have to settle the fine within 30 days from the date of the decision.
