PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) have slapped Kedah and Perak with a hefty two-year suspension for failing to secure their National Licence for the 2025-2026 season.
The MFL board of directors had decided to suspend both clubs from all MFL tournaments for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 season.
“Based on the MFL constitution, clubs who withdraw from the M-League will not receive any benefits from MFL and be barred from football-related activities,” MFL said in a statement yesterday.
At the same time, the board had suspended Pahang for one season, namely the 2025-2026 season for also withdrawing from the M-League.
In May, Kedah and Perak were denied licences due to non-compliance with the financial criteria set by the MFL Club Licencing Regulations 2024-2025 edition.
Without it, both clubs were ineligible to compete in the Super League this season.
They, however, can compete in the A1 Semi-Pro League, under the banner of Amateur Football League (AFL).
Pahang, meanwhile, had obtained their 2025-2026 National Licence, but in June submitted a letter stating their decision to withdraw from the M-League, promising to make a comeback after a season’s pause.
MFL added that the three clubs would also lose their entitlement to merit-based revenue distribution after the end of the 2024-2025 M-League season.
