PETALING JAYA: Winger Ramadhan Saifullah is rapidly emerging as one of Kuching City’s most influential figures this season, and the 25-year-old is now pushing to turn his consistency into a standout campaign.

He reinforced that growing reputation with a superb brace to inspire Kuching City to a commanding 4-1 win over Police at the State Stadium in Kuching on Sunday.

Kuching made a flying start when Cameroonian striker Ronald Ngah struck as early as the second minute, but Police hit back through Amirul Waie Yaacob, who levelled in the 43rd minute to briefly restore parity.

Ramadhan, however, took full control after the break, curling in two excellent free-kicks in the 48th and 63rd minutes to put Kuching firmly in charge.

Fellow Cameroonian Jerome Mpacko Etame then added the fourth goal in the 68th minute to complete the emphatic win.

The performance further strengthens Ramadhan’s case as a leading contender for the Malaysian Football League (MFL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

He has now registered seven goals and nine assists in 20 Super League appearances.

He has also contributed one goal each in the Malaysia Cup (four matches) and FA Cup (six matches), along with two assists in the latter competition.

“I’m grateful for my performance this season.

“As players, we always strive to improve, but I’m happy to have contributed goals and assists for the team.

“Football is a team game – my focus is helping the squad win,” he said.

“At the same time, I believe I can reach a higher level. I want to stay consistent, keep working hard, and finish the season strong.”

Kuching City head coach Aidil Sharin praised his side’s attacking display but admitted there is still room for improvement.

“They worked hard, were aggressive from the start and created many chances.

“We grew in confidence after the goals and deserved the result,” he said.

However, he noted the need for greater efficiency in front of goal.

“We missed several good chances, so that’s something we must improve. We have a week to prepare and fix those issues,” he added.

Kuching now turn their attention to the Malaysia Cup semi-final second leg against Selangor at the State Stadium in Kuching on April 18.

Aidil stressed the importance of squad depth ahead of the crucial tie.

“I always give players opportunities. They must show they deserve to play. Everyone has to be ready when called upon,” he said.
