PETALING JAYA: Haziq Nadzli is delighted that he is being recognised for his contributions after nine years of playing professional football.

The 26-year-old Perak goalkeeper finally has something to show for his dedication, which is being nominated in the Best Goalkeeper category at the Malaysian Football Awards.

The Perak mainstay is up against two contenders: national team goalkeeper Ahmad Syihan Hazmi of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Selangor’s Kalamullah Al-Hafiz.

Haziq’s standout performances in 17 Super League matches, including five clean sheets, have not only cemented his role as Perak’s No. 1 but also caught the attention of Harimau Malaya coach Peter Cklamovski.

Haziq not only is good with shot stopping but also shown that he can be a good distributor of the ball, proving vital in some of Perak’s plays.

Despite the recognition, Haziq remains humble, acknowledging the strength of his fellow nominees.

“For me, both Ahmad Syihan and Kalamullah have their strengths. Syihan, for example, has won the FA Cup, Charity Shield, and the Super League this year. Kalamullah, on the other hand, has excellent movement and strong overall performance,” Haziq said.

Making the top three finalists for the prestigious ABK award has given Haziq an extra boost in motivation.

“My goal next season is to continue giving my best for the team. I’ll work even harder to improve on my weaknesses.”
