KOTA KINABALU: Super League side Sabah FC have appointed Slovakian Martin Stano as their head coach for the rest of the 2024-2025 Malaysia League (M-League) season.
Stano was previously appointed as temporary assistant coach-cum-fitness coach together with interim head coach Alto Linus after Datuk Ong Kim Swee chose not to extend his contract as head coach with the team.
Sabah FC added that Stano, 47, would be assisted by Alto and fitness coach Muhamadin Abdul Ajid, who has been promoted from Sabah FC II to the main team.
"These appointments were made from the existing coaching lineup to ensure the momentum of victory and the team's approach, such as training, tactics, methodology and video analysis, can continue uninterrupted and not affect the team's performance.
"The MFL (Malaysian Football League) had given Sabah FC until Dec 10 (Tuesday) to appoint a new head coach who possesses a Pro Licence, which Stano has," Sabah FC said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 10).
Former Harimau Malaya head coach Kim Swee, who chose not to extend his stay with Sabah FC when his contract expired last month, has since been appointed as the new head coach of Persis Solo, a football club in the Indonesian League.
Sabah FC are currently third in the 13-team Super League standings with 29 points from 15 matches, behind leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim (43 points) and Selangor (32 points). - Bernama
