PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim striker Bergson Da Silva’s (pic) third goal in Perak’s 5-0 annihilation in the Super League at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Sunday has gone viral.

The 33-year-old Brazilian scored the goals in the 21st, 45th and 89th minutes but the final one took the cake when he capitalised on a loose save by Perak goalkeeper Ramadhan Abd Hamid by chesting the ball and tapping it into the net with a ‘no-look’ shot.

It was made popular by Brazilian legend Ronaldinho in the past.

Fellow striker Romel Morales scored the other two in the 18th and 32nd minutes to make it a grand day for JDT.

“The ball came to me (for the third goal) after the goalkeeeper cleared my first shot. I was close to the target and decided it would be nice to do the no-look finish,” said Da Silva.

“It was a good moment for us, good to have a hattrick. We won 5-0 and a clean sheet. We want to keep this momentum going.”

Da Silva, who has been playing for JDT since 2021, has 19 goals in the Super League this season, topping the Golden Boot charts.

He is indeed on course to win the top scorer award for the third time in a row after winning it in 2022 and 2023.

In 120 matches in all competitions for the club, Da Silva has scored 126 goals, proving his status as an elite attacker in Malaysia.

“I’m feeling good. We are experiencing these moments because of the team, we push each other.

“We don’t have a secret. The key to success is to work hard and sacrifice.”

The Southern Tigers now have 40 points from 14 matches, taking a healthy 11-point lead from second-placed Selangor. Perak remain seventh with 17 points.

Meanwhile, Perak centreback A. Shivan Pillay said they paid a heavy price for the huge mistakes they made.

“But we did show some improvements in the second-half. We move on. We are now seventh in the league, which means we qualify automatically for the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals,” said the 23-year-old.

“Malaysia Cup (starting on Nov 20) is a special tournament. Last year, we went to the semi-finals, and hopefully, we can repeat that feat this season.”
