Olusegun out to gun down Giants

PETALING JAYA: Police’s Ifedayo Olusegun believes his team have what it takes to upset the formbook against his former club Selangor when they clash on Saturday.

The Nigerian striker said players are in high spirits during training as they prepare to take on the Red Giants at the Selayang Stadium.

“The spirit is high in training. Everyone knows what it means to be playing against one of the best teams in the country.

“We (Police) are fond of always turning the tables on these teams. I’m optimistic and everyone is training hard for the match.

“It will be an interesting match because we are playing at home. But for me it’s nothing special as it’s just another game where I have to do my job as a striker and be lucky enough to score,” he said.

The team have had decent results lately after drawing with Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Terengganu and beating Sabah and Kuala Lumpur.

Police are currently fifth in the Super League table with 15 points while Selangor are second with 25.

“We are not going to play Selangor the same way we played against JDT, Terengganu, or Sabah.

“We just have to be lucky enough for our approach to the game to be fruitful,” he said.

Having played for Selangor from 2019 to 2021, Olusegun said his former club has been doing well, and there are some names in the squad that can cause problems for Police.

“Selangor are doing well now and obviously there are some players that can cause problems and the coach has pointed them out to us.

“I’m always trying to score goals in every game no matter the opponent, I don’t have any personal agenda against my former club,” he said.
