Football: JDT continue winning streak with 4-0 thumping of Terengganu

PETALING JAYA: Bergson Da Silva ensured that Johor Darul Ta’zim continued their winning streak in the Super League after scoring a hattrick in the 4-0 demolition of Terengganu at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Friday (July 26).

The Brazilian hotshot scored his goals in the 32nd, 64th minute and 92nd minute to help the Southern Tigers get their sixth win in a row. The other goal was scored by fellow Brazilian Heberty Fernandes in the sixth minute.

Terengganu were down with 10 men as early as the 32nd minute when centreback Ubaidullah Samsul Fazili was adjudged to have fouled Bergson after several checks by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The decision was a controversial one as the foil on Da Silva was a soft one and the Terengganu bench remonstrated the decision as they felt it was a red card offence but the referee made up his mind.

JDT remain top of the league with 18 points, while Terengganu are fourth with eight points from five games.

Meanwhile, in Alor Setar, Kuching City made a late comeback to hold home side Kedah 1-1 at the Darulaman Stadium.

Midfielder Hasbullah Abu Bakar scored Kedah’s goal in the 61st minute. Kuching got the late equaliser in the 92nd minute through a Jordan Mintah penalty.

Kedah are sixth in the league with seven points from six matches, while Kuching are seventh, also with seven but separated by goal difference.

Perak got their second win of the season after beating Kelantan 3-1 at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru.

Argentinian midfielder and captain Luciano Guaycochea was the hero for the away side scoring two goals in the 57th and 80th minute. Perak’s first goal was scored by midfielder Firdaus Saiyadi in the 44th minute.

Kelantan’s lone goal was scored by Syahir Rashid in the 87th minute.

Perak are now ninth with six points from six games, while Kelantan are 12th with three from six matches.
