Selangor's Shahril Mokhtar quits all FAM posts

PETALING JAYA: Football Association of Selangor (FAS) deputy president Shahril Mokhtar has resigned from all his posts in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) with immediate effect.

Shahril said his decision has nothing to do with the furore over the Malaysian Football League's (MFL) punishment meted out on Selangor.

Shahril, who was previously manager of the national Under-23 team, informed FAM led by president Hamidin Amin of his decision on Wednesday (June 26).

However, he said his resignation was not related to the MFL's decision to impose a RM100,000 fine and deduction of three points from Selangor after the club withdrew from last month's Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT).

"I informed Hamidin Amin this morning that I am resigning from all positions in FAM with immediate effect. The reason for my resignation will remain between me, FAM and Hamidin," said Shahril.

"It has nothing to do with any issue. I have been contemplating this for a long time, not just for a week or two," Shahril said.

The Red Giants were also informed that they must compensate JDT, the home team for the season-opening match, and the MFL, with a sum to be announced later.
