PETALING JAYA: Kedah have been handed a three-point deduction for the 2024-2025 Super League season and fined RM50,000 for failing to fully settle their salary arrears for 2023.
Malaysian Football League (MFL) First Instance Body (FIB) chairman Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif said in a statement that the punishment was made after the Canaries were found to have failed to meet the conditions set for the full settlement of the salary arrears on March 30.
“The FIB take note of the letter from Kedah dated March 28 regarding settling 50 per cent of the total salary arrears for 2023 as well as the letter of agreement for scheduling the payment of the remaining salary arrears that was signed by 75 per cent of the players and officials involved dated March 29,” he said.
“However, it still does not meet the conditions that were set, which is the full settlement of the salary arrears for the year 2023.”
He added that the punishment meted out to Kedah was effective yesterday based on Article 2.4 (c) of the Malaysian Football League (MFL) Club Licensing Rules 2023 Edition.
He said that if Kedah fail to fully settle the salary arrears or submit proof of financial documents to settle the payments by 5pm on April 20, the team’s national licence could be revoked, thus making them ineligible to compete in the 2024-2025 Super League season, which will kick off on May 10.
Meanwhile, FIB also confirmed that Kuala Lumpur have settled their salary arrears for 2023 before the March 30 deadline.
