German touch may be what struggling Kelantan need

Familiar face: Former Malaysia Under-23 coach Frank Bernhardt is believed to have signed a contract with Kelantan to be their technical director.

PETALING JAYA: While rumours are rife that Kelantan are planning to change their coach, it is learnt that the Red Warriors have roped in former Malaysia Under-23 coach Frank Bernhardt as technical director.

A source close to the German said a contract was signed yesterday with the club.

“He has signed, but the club have not announced it yet. Coach Frank will be the technical director.”

Kelantan, coached by South Korean Choi Moon-sik, are struggling in the Super League as they lie 10th with just four points from five games.

There’s also much talk that teams who are near the bottom of the standings have taken their coaches to task, with some being given show cause letters.

Among them are Thomas Trucha (Kelantan United), Tomislav Steinbruckner (Terengganu) and Chong Yee Fatt (Penang).
