KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran striker Safee Sali hopes to taste action for Kuala Lumpur this Saturday as he will become the Malaysian player to win the AFC Cup twice if Bojan Hodak’s squad is able to tame Oman club Al Seeb in the final.

The 38-year-old tasted glory with Johor Darul Ta’zim back in 2015 when the club emerged champions after defeating Tajikistan club FC Istiklol 1-0 in the final.

The former national striker now has another shot at repeating history with KL at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

“It is very special for me because it is not easy to get into the AFC Cup final for the second time.

“I am very grateful and KL have certainly played very well throughout this AFC Cup competition.

“To a small extent, I may only be helping in terms of moral support for the players during training and matches.

“This is also the highlight of my career, being able to be in the AFC Cup final twice.

“Alhamdulillah, this is my destiny and fortune. I feel very lucky to be with this team in the final of the AFC Cup after we beat all the odds.

“It’s okay if I don’t get to play as it’s up to the management. I just want to enjoy the atmosphere of being in the AFC Cup final.

On his advice to his teammates, the experienced player hoped they will enjoy the atmosphere. “It is also at the same venue where we beat the odds to win the Malaysia Cup final last year (KL beat JDT 2-0).

“If it’s the final, there’s not much emphasis on the players, they just have to enjoy the atmosphere of the final so they don’t get stressed about the match.

“The most important thing is that we are in the final...we prepare well, sleep and eat enough, make sure we are ready for this Saturday’s match,” he added.
