PETALING JAYA: Midfielder Syamer Kutty Abba admitted that the Harimau Malaya had only themselves to blame for the 2-1 loss to Bahrain but said he was proud of the team who fought all the way despite the adverse conditions on the field.
“I salute all the players as we gave our all for 90 minutes despite the tough conditions on the pitch. It’s a game we should have won. We had more clear chances than Bahrain and we wasted them,’’ he said.
‘’We also committed two silly errors which cost us dearly. We must learn from this and bounce back quickly in our last game against Bangladesh.’’
The 25-year-old Johor Darul Ta’zim player has been a standout for Malaysia in the Asian Cup qualifying campaign due to some steely performances.
Against Bahrain, he was a tireless workhorse, pressing the opponents constantly and breaking up attacks with some crunching tackles.
Syamer also caught the eye with some beautiful defence-splitting passes.
Coach Kim Pan-gon will expect another energetic performance from Syamer when they face Bangladesh tomorrow.
Syamer, however, is already on guard for a tricky tie against the Bangladeshis.
“Turkmenistan could only beat Bangladesh 2-1. So, every game now will not be easy as the teams are equally proficient in defence and attack.
“We just have to go in highly motivated and push for a result,” he added.
