Regan fans the flames of M-League restart

PETALING JAYA: Selangor skipper Taylor Regan does not expect the Super League to lose its lustre even if it resumes without the fans.

Looking to South Korea as an example, he said the return of football will do much for the teams and the country’s economy.

“We can see from the K-League, which has recently resumed, although they were no fans in the stands, the TV ratings were excellent. “TV is actually the perfect platform for businesses and companies to advertise their products. Who knows, maybe the commencement of the league will bring more opportunities for MFL and member clubs, ” said Regan, adding that sponsors would also continue supporting football.

Regan said players were actually excited about returning.

“Football is important but health is the most important thing in our lives, not just for us but also for our families. The plans have been put in place to make sure we are safe.”

“Football is a contact sport, but we will be avoiding direct contact for the time being. I believe everybody will be smart regarding these small but important things, ” said the Australian defender.

“MFL want the competition to resume and so do we as players. It will come with limitations surrounding fan attendance and travel restrictions but playing games will bring a small amount of normalcy back to the football landscape. That is important.”

The Red Giants are currently placed sixth in the 12-team Super League standings with five points.

They started their campaign with a 2-1 win over Pahang, followed by draws with Perak (1-1) and Terengganu (3-3) and suffered a 0-3 loss to Kedah (0-3) before the M-League was suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic.
