Regan: Joining Super League is just fan-tastic

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak United are the first side to confirm promotion to the Super League next season and captain Taylor Regan was quick to hail their fans for the feat.

The Borneo club are currently top of the Premier League with 37 points with second placed Negri Sembilan (35) likely to join them in the big league.

Although they have three more games – against Kuching City (Sept 7, away), Negri (Sept 10, home) and Johor Darul Ta’zim II (Sept 21, away) – the club are assured of promotion as the third and fourth spots are occupied by feeder teams, Johor Darul Ta’zim II and Terengganu II. Fifth placed Police, with 25 points are out of the running.

Regan, who used to play for Selangor and Negri Sembilan, is happy they have achieved the target set by the management.

But there’s still one thing missing – a trophy to cap a fruitful season.

“We started in January with the main goal to be promoted. We always want to win trophies, but the club made it clear that promotion was the most important thing,” said the 32-year-old Australian.

“We have achieved what they have asked of us and we are proud of our achievement.

“This is for the Sarawak fans too. Their support have given all of us a reason to believe.

“It’s been a successful season with regards to our performances and everything. As it stands, we are top of the table with the best defensive and attacking record.

“We have achieved many things as a group. But without a trophy, I will not be satisfied.

Sarawak are on fiery form as they have won their last three matches.

“There’s three more remaining and we aim to extend our winning streak to end the season in style.”
