PKNS 'rest' under-fire coach Wan Jamak

PETALING JAYA: PKNS FC have told head coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan to take a break for the rest of the season.

The former national coach earned the wrath of the management following the club’s dismal form in the Super League, where they are languishing at the bottom of the 12-team standings with 14 points from 17 matches.

Assistant coach Anuar Abu Bakar has been appointed interim caretaker coach with immediate effect.

Club president Siti Zubaidah Abd Jabar said the decision to rest coach Wan Jamak was made by the executive committee at an emergency meeting on Tuesday.

“It was a unanimous decision of the exco. We have full confidence in Anuar to turn around the teams’ fortunes in the remaining fixtures as we seek to avoid relegation,” she said in a press statement on Wednesday.

PKNS are winless in their last 10 matches, since beating T-Team 3-1 on March 14. In the second round, they have lost five of their six matches, including against Sime Darby FC 4-1 in the last game on May 24.

Former international Anuar’s first game in charge will be against Perak at the Shah Alam Stadium on June 10.
