KUANTAN: National Under-23 striker Mohd Rozaimi Abdul Rahman may have picked up the top scorer award in the Merdeka Tournament but he is far from happy with his performance.
The Sabahan scored the opener in the 2-0 win over Myanmar in the final at the Darul Makmur Stadium on Saturday to end his campaign with three goals.
He bagged a brace to beat Thailand 3-0 in the group stage last Wednesday to earn a spot in the starting line-up for the final.
The Harimau Muda A player, however, took too long to find his footing in the final. He wasted many goal-scoring chances and was even jeered by the crowd before he found the back of the net in the 28th minute.
“I’m not satisfied with my performance ... I wasted too many chance to score but I’m glad that we won the match in the end,” said the 21-year-old Rozaimi.
“I heard the crowd jeering me and they were right because I played below par. I was supposed to be much more clinical and tougher in the challenges but I didn’t do that.”
Rozaimi believes that he needs to buck up if he wants to be picked for the Myanmar SEA Games in December.
“I need more matches to be at my best and there’s plenty of room for me to improve to become the top striker in the team,” he said.
“The competition in the team will get tougher as we edge closer to the Games.
“Everyone wants to be picked to defend our gold medal. I believe I will do better if I’m selected for the Games.”
