SELAYANG: Premier League side Sime Darby continued their giant-killing run with a sensational 3-0 win over 32-time champions Selangor in their Malaysia Cup Group A match at the Selayang Stadium.
Premier League top scorer Karlo Primorac fired a brace in the 20th and 29th minute before Fahrul Razi Kamaruddin sealed a convincing victory in the 71st minute Tuesday night.
The Red Giants have yet to record a single win after playing three matches and again looked out of sorts against Sime Darby.
The Klang Valley giants just didn’t turn up for the match and were overrun by the industrious Sime Darby.
The Selangor defence, marshalled by Adam Griffith and Mohd Nasriq Baharom, struggled to contain Croatian hitman Primorac.
Goalkeeper Norazlan Razali was also a big letdown for Selangor with his nervy display.
The Selangor strike force, led by Liberian Francis Doe and Mohd Amri Yahyah, was also ineffective. This was due to a lack of support from their midfielders.
Sime Darby now top the group with six points from three matches while another Premier League side Johor are second with five points after their 3-3 draw with another of the favourites, Armed Forces, at the Pasir Gudang Stadium.
Forces are third with three points while Selangor prop up the table with just a point.
Selangor coach Irfan Bakti will have to push the panic button now that they have only three more matches remaining.
The Red Giants will have to win all the three matches and expect their opponents to drop points.
In the other Group A match, Johor raced ahead with goals by Mohd Ezairady Khadar (44th) and Mohd Farid Ideris (49th) before Armed Forces drew level with through Shukor Adan (53th) and Marlon James (73rd).
Forces thought they had done enough to collect all three points when James found the net with his freekick in the 79th minute.
Forces’ Mohd Hairul Nizam Hanif, however, had other ideas and his 80th-minute goal made sure both teams trooped off with a share of the points.
