PETALING JAYA: The Tour of Thailand turned out to be a happy hunting ground for cyclists from Malaysian pro teams Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) and Malaysia Pro Cycling (MPC).
TSG’s Vadim Pronskiy of Kazakhtstan defeated 113 participants from 13 other road team outfits to claim the yellow jersey for best overall individual performance.
Pronskiy, who is on his second season with TSG, placed 18th in the sixth and final stage of the competition yesterday.
But it was enough for the Kazakhstan rider to secure the yellow jersey with a slim 0.03s lead from the nearest rival Eduardo Sepulveda from Li Ning Star.
Pronskiy, who took over as the yellow jersey leader after winning Stage 3 last week, completed the tour with a total time of 17:36.10.
Pronskiy also claimed the King of Mountain (green jersey) honours for TSG.
He was third overall for TSG in the individual classification for Le Tour de Langkawi last year.
In Stage 6 yesterday, TSG also claimed a podium finish through Frenchman Pierre Barbier, who finished the race in second spot behind Alexander Salby from Li Ning Star.
MPC, who were set up two years ago, also celebrated a podium finish through third-placed Mohd Izzat Hilmi Abdul Halil.
Izzat and teammate Mohd Iqbal Daniel Mohd Nawawi gave MPC a 1-2 finish in the Best Asean Rider classification.
MPC finished ahead of Thailand National Team in the Best Asean Team classification.
