PETALING JAYA: The seventh edition of the OCBC Cycle Kuala Lumpur saw the biggest turnout with 2,700 riders — young and old, in the heart of the city yesterday.
Children aged three to seven participated excitedly for the first time through a new Kids Push Bike category.
The more serious cyclists rode through the gruelling 42km route and the leisure cyclists opted for the 21km ride while teams of 10 each participated in the team event called the KL Mayor’s Ride.
A stretch of 21km roads was closed to facilitate the rides, which were designed to complement the 7km distance that are used by many during the weekly KL Car Free Morning, organised by the bank
OCBC chief executive officer Tan Chor Sen said: “It is heartening to see children and families gathered together for a healthy morning in the closed roads of KL to be part of our largest gathering to date of more than 2,700 participants this morning.”
“We are happy to have provided this safe cycling platform for the seventh time through this series. We are grateful for the support (from all stakeholders).”
This year’s event also saw limited or no use of plastic packaging for the event packs. They also did away with paper flyers and bubble wrap for medals. Medals were packed with tracing paper, which is compostable.
