RISING tennis starlet Shihomi Leong Li Xuan smashed her way to a double finish at the 5th Asian Tennis Federation Under-14 tournament.
Besides winning the singles title, the 12-year-old from Ipoh, Perak, also won the doubles event partnering Iman Syuhada Abdullah in the tournament held at the Penang Sports Club (PSC) in Jalan Utama, George Town.
Li Xuan, however, expressed surprise at winning the singles title after beating her doubles partner Iman Syuhada.
“I played against her many times and I lost most of the time.
“Beating her in the singles final is a rare bonus. I’m proud to achieve a double finish here,” she said.
Li Xuan hopes the victory at the PSC would lead her to bigger things.
“Hopefully, I can live up to the expectations of my coach Jeff Leong Chee Wai, who is also my father.
“I hope to feature in the Sea Games,” said Li Xuan, who will be heading to Kazakhstan to compete in an inter-team championship.
She hopes her good run can help Malaysia finish better than the seventh placing last year.
Li Xuan idolised professional Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka, who won the US Open last year.
“I like her playing styles and fantastic serves. I want to emulate her achievement in the near future,” she said.
