Strength of two As - Adelia and Adania overcome setback to top qualifying group at World Youth meet

PETALING JAYA: National bowling duo Adelia Nur Izwan Syazalee and Adania Mohd Redzwan showed resilience to overcome a setback and secure a top finish in their qualifying group for the girls’ doubles event of the World Youth Championship at the Sarawak Megalanes today.

The two had failed to secure a top two spot in the singles’ second round group stage yesterday.

Adelia and Adania, however, used that hiccup as motivation to do better.

“We expected at least one player to get through the singles. But that disappointment only fuelled us today,” said the 19-year-old Adelia.

Adelia and Adania, 20, registered an impressive total of 2,076 pins in 10 games, ensuring their progress to the second round.

“While it feels great to top our group, we can't get too carried away and have to take it one match at a time,”  added Adelia.

The pair’s last outing together was in the Asian Youth Championships, where they narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Qurratu’Ain Izdihar Pozi and Intan Nur Edryna Nor Azliman also secured a place in the next round by placing third  in their qualifying group with a total of 2,056 pins.

Both the Malaysian combinations have been placed in separate groups as they continue their medal chase in the second round tomorrow.
