Oops, wrong opponent - a mess in bowling semis

Bowler Syazirol Shamsudin

BANGKOK: A mind-boggling mix-up in the bowling competition saw national bowler Syazirol Shamsudin settling for bronze after he lost by one pin, 210-211, to Thailand's Napat Buspanikokul in the semi-finals.

The semi-finals were well underway when the organisers controversially stopped both matches to swap the players. They were playing against the wrong opponents!

Syazirol was leading and gaining momentum with strikes when the shock came - he was not supposed to be facing Philippines' Mark Jesus San.

Napat, meanwhile, was losing in the other semi-final to Vietnam’s Tran Hoang Khoi at the Blu-O Rythm and Bowl Alley in Ratchayosin, Bangkok yesterday.

Syazirol was already playing his seventh frame in semi-final when the match was stopped and the lanes re-oiled.

Jesus San then lost in the other semi-final to the Vietnamese. Both losing semi-finalists will get bronze medals.
