Women's bowling team win silver at IBF World Championships


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian women's team won a silver medal after going down 1-2 to the United States in the IBF World Championships team final in Hong Kong on Friday (Dec 5).

The team comprising Sin Li Jane, Gillian Lim, Natasha Roslan, Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal, Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee and Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman started strongly with a 191-179 win in the opening game at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai.

But Julia Bond, Bryanna Cote, Shannon Pluhowsky, Lauren Russo and Jillian Martin hit back to take the next two games 200-159 and 199-185.

Malaysia earlier brushed aside Japan 2-0 to reach the final after recording 204-117 and 198-145. The Americans came through a 2-1 comeback over South Korea with 234-257, 221-151 and 212-160.

The team silver also confirmed Malaysia's bronze in the women's all-events with 273.29 points. The United States claimed gold with 302.21 points while Singapore secured silver with 285.13 points.

Adelia added to Malaysia's haul with silver in the women's singles in her World Championships debut earlier in the week.
