PETALING JAYA: Being the youngest member of the national bowling team bound for the World Championships is not intimidating for Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee (pic) – it’s motivating.
The 18-year-old sees her selection as both an honour and a valuable opportunity to learn and grow at the highest level of competition.
“It’s a real privilege and also really inspiring to train and compete alongside such experienced and talented teammates,” said the 18-year-old.
“I’m learning a lot from them and I’m just trying to absorb as much as I can while doing my best to contribute to the team.”
Adelia admitted she felt a wave of mixed emotions upon learning about her maiden World Championships call-up.
“I’m truly honoured to be selected to compete at the World Championships,” said Adelia.
“It’s a mix of emotions. I was surprised and thrilled when I first found out, but also a bit anxious knowing the level of competition ahead.
“Still, I’m very grateful for the opportunity and determined to give my best performance.”
Although her event has yet to be confirmed, Adelia’s focus remains clear.
She wants to prepare herself thoroughly and perform to the best of her ability when the time comes.
“For now, I’m just focusing on preparing myself as best as I can, so I’ll be ready for whichever event I’m selected for,” said Adelia.
“My main goal is to give my very best and trust the process. I just want to stay focused and present, and perform to the best of my ability. I believe that if I give my all and stay true to the process, the results will follow.
“Of course, I hope to perform well and contribute to the team’s success, but more than anything, I want to come home knowing I gave everything I had and make everyone who has supported me proud.”
Competing alongside Adelia in the women’s team are Sin Li Jane, Gillian Lim, Natasha Roslan, Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal and Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman.
The men’s team comprise Mohd Syazirol Shamsudin, Hafiz Zainuddin, Rafiq Ismail, Izz Naqiuddin Putera Islahuddin, Mohd Hazim Ali Hanafiah and Mohd Danial Abu Samah.
