PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan gave a commanding display to beat Sabah 59-42 in the final of the Maba-Matrix Cup at the Balik Pulau Sports Complex yesterday.

Syahrul Ridzuan Rosli was the star of the show for Negri as he won his side a whopping 20 points, claimed eight rebounds and chalked up two assists.

Negri’s Eman Ajmal Jamil (eight points, three rebounds) and Kevin Ian Andiu (seven points, seven rebounds) also played important roles to propel their team to victory with both claiming an assist each.

Overall, Negri were the better team on all counts with 64 rebounds compared to Sabah’s 47, and 13 assists with the latter chalking up only seven.

Negri pocketed RM5,000 for their efforts while Sabah received RM2,500.

Meanwhile, Putrajaya finished third in the competition and earned RM1,000 after they defeated hosts Penang 64-38 in the third-fourth playoff match.

Michael Munnesvicky was instrumental for Putrajaya, scoring 34 points, claiming five rebounds and providing an assist.

In other results, Selangor finished fifth after beating Terengganu 84-62.
